More frequently than not, I have a job that requires me to do shitty things to people. Usually, I can deal with it but, today was not one of those days because the shittiness involved someone I care about. I usually can justify it through the person's actions or by saying its business, but today, not so much.
My company is pretty hard core - and expectations are high. They don't accept status quo or cavalier behavior. You're giving 110%, no make that 150% all the time or you're not cutting it. And you'll be cut down at the knees if your slacking. I've seen people that have given 30 years of their life to the place escorted out the door. Engagement is a must. And by all means everyone knows that.
I wonder though, through all these conversations, counselings, suspensions and terminations, how people get there? Do they recognize they are there? Are they just tired? Do they not see it? Has something else become more important?
I also wonder, how I'll feel when it's my turn.
